Delhi has implemented Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) IV just hours after activating GRAP III, as the city’s air quality continues to deteriorate. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached a concerning level of 441, categorizing it as “severe.”
The decision to escalate the response comes amid rising pollution levels, attributed to various factors including vehicular emissions, construction activities, and seasonal changes. Under GRAP IV, stricter measures will be enforced to mitigate the impact of air pollution on public health. These measures may include restrictions on construction activities, increased monitoring of industrial emissions, and the promotion of public transportation.
Authorities are urging residents to limit outdoor activities, especially vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. The government is also expected to enhance public awareness campaigns regarding the health risks associated with poor air quality.
The situation highlights ongoing challenges in managing air pollution in Delhi, which has consistently ranked among the most polluted cities globally. As the winter months approach, the government is under pressure to implement effective strategies to improve air quality and safeguard public health.
