The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) announced on Monday that it will issue refunds for tickets purchased for the fourth T20 match between India and South Africa, which was scheduled to take place in Lucknow but was abandoned due to heavy fog. The match, part of a five-match T20 series, was set to be played at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium on December 18, 2025, but visibility conditions deteriorated significantly, making it impossible for the game to proceed.

The decision to cancel the match was made shortly after the scheduled start time of 7 PM IST, as the dense fog reduced visibility to less than 50 meters, rendering the playing conditions unsafe for both players and officials. The match officials, after assessing the situation, determined that the fog would not clear in a timely manner, leading to the official abandonment of the match.

In light of the cancellation, the UPCA has urged fans who purchased tickets to apply for refunds through the official channels. The association stated that the process for obtaining refunds would be straightforward, with details provided on their official website and social media platforms. Fans are advised to retain their tickets, as they will be required to process the refunds.

This incident marks a significant moment in the ongoing series, which has seen both teams competing fiercely. The series is part of India’s preparation for upcoming international tournaments, including the T20 World Cup scheduled for 2026. The cancellation of the match not only affects the players’ momentum but also the fans who had anticipated witnessing the clash between two cricketing powerhouses.

The foggy weather conditions in Lucknow are not uncommon during the winter months, as the region experiences significant temperature drops and increased humidity. The UPCA had previously taken measures to ensure that the match could proceed, including monitoring weather forecasts leading up to the game. However, the sudden onset of fog proved to be an insurmountable challenge.

The implications of this cancellation extend beyond just the immediate financial impact on ticket holders. The match was expected to draw a large crowd, contributing to local tourism and the economy. Cricket matches in India often generate significant revenue for local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and transportation services. The abandonment of the match may lead to a ripple effect on these sectors, particularly in a city like Lucknow, which has been working to establish itself as a prominent cricketing venue.

The UPCA has expressed its commitment to ensuring that fans have a positive experience, even in the face of unforeseen circumstances. The association has emphasized the importance of fan engagement and satisfaction, stating that they will work diligently to process refunds in a timely manner. Additionally, the UPCA has indicated that they will continue to monitor weather conditions closely for the remaining matches in the series to avoid similar situations.

As the series progresses, both teams will look to regroup and focus on the remaining matches. India currently leads the series, and the players will be eager to maintain their form and capitalize on their home advantage. South Africa, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back and secure a victory in the upcoming matches.

The cancellation of the match due to fog serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of outdoor sports, particularly in regions where weather conditions can change rapidly. It highlights the challenges faced by organizers in ensuring that events proceed smoothly while prioritizing the safety of players and spectators alike.

In conclusion, the UPCA’s decision to refund tickets following the cancellation of the India-South Africa T20 match underscores the association’s commitment to its fans and the challenges posed by weather-related disruptions. As the series continues, both teams and their supporters will be hoping for clearer skies and a successful conclusion to the competition.
