A drone strike on a United Nations peacekeeping logistics base in Kadugli, Sudan, has resulted in the deaths of six peacekeepers, according to UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The attack occurred on Saturday and also left eight other peacekeepers injured. All of the deceased and wounded personnel are Bangladeshi nationals serving with the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (Unisfa).
Guterres condemned the strike as “unjustifiable” and suggested that it could constitute a war crime. The incident highlights the ongoing violence and instability in Sudan, particularly in the central Kordofan region, which has been affected by conflict for years. The UN has been actively involved in peacekeeping efforts in the region, aiming to stabilize the situation and protect civilians.
